In the digital age, social media influencers wield significant power, and sometimes, that influence can take an unsettling turn. Chaya Raichik, a 29-year-old figure known for her ‘Libs of TikTok’ account, has found herself at the center of a storm.
Last March, an investigation into a bomb threat in Coralville, Iowa, revealed a peculiar connection to Raichik’s social media posts. Detective Hanna Dvorak of the Coralville Police Department noted, “It appears this all stems from a post made earlier this week by Chaya Raichik and her ‘Libs of TikTok’ account.”
Who is Chaya Raichik Libs of TikTok?
Raichik, who boasts a substantial following of 2.8 million on X, employs her platform to critique individuals such as drag performers, LGBTQ teachers, and doctors treating transgender patients.
The name “Libs of TikTok” itself is a nod to the people Raichik mocks, with “Libs” being short for “liberal.” NBC News investigated and found instances where Raichik’s posts preceded bomb threats or violent intimidation in various locations across the United States and Canada.
According to NBC News, there were 33 documented cases of threats occurring shortly after Raichik’s posts, starting in November 2020. These threats targeted schools, libraries, hospitals, small businesses, and elected officials in multiple states.
Authorities in jurisdictions like Burbank, California; Minnetonka, Minnesota; Oklahoma City; and Tualatin, Oregon, have all pointed fingers at Raichik, suggesting her posts played a role in instigating the threats.

Law enforcement agencies in at least 13 jurisdictions sought FBI assistance to trace the origin of these threats. The FBI, in response to the increase in violence targeting institutions, stated, “The FBI and our state and local partners will continue to aggressively pursue perpetrators of these threats — real or false — and hold them accountable.”
However, NBC News reported that Raichik dismissed these allegations as attempts to discredit her, stating, “This ‘b*mb threat’ narrative is getting old.”
Legal Ramifications and Foreign Involvement
Surprisingly, of the 33 instances reviewed by NBC News, only three led to charges. Prosecutors pursued charges related to threats against Boston Children’s Hospital, an Oregon middle school, and a white nationalist hate group targeting an Idaho Pride event. In four instances, there were indications, such as non-U.S. domain email addresses, suggesting potential foreign involvement.
Raichik’s Rise in the Culture Wars
Despite the controversies surrounding Raichik, her influence continues to grow. Libs of TikTok has become a significant player in the nation’s culture wars, collecting and posting examples of what it deems far-left ideology. Influential figures like Elon Musk, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., and Sen.
Ted Cruz, R-Texas, follows the account. Former President Donald Trump even hosted Raichik for dinner at his Mar-a-Lago estate in January 2023, and she appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show in December 2022.
Raichik’s Appointment and the Fallout
On January 23, 2024, Raichik was appointed to the Oklahoma Department of Education’s Library Media Advisory Committee by Superintendent Ryan Walters. However, her appointment faced opposition from at least one lawmaker who referenced the bomb threats in contesting Raichik’s suitability for the committee. The threats have not only disrupted communities but also occupied considerable government resources.
The Impact on Local Communities
The aftermath of these threats has been disruptive, leading to school cancellations and evacuations. In Oregon’s Tigard-Tualatin School District, Superintendent Sue Rieke-Smith dealt with bomb threats after Libs of TikTok tagged the district in its posts. Rieke-Smith emphasized the need for consequences when social media is used to harm communities.
Chief Greg Pickering of the Tualatin Police Department echoed the sentiment, stating that investigating these threats takes significant time and resources. Raichik, however, maintains that she does not support threatening her subjects and is not responsible for how people respond to her content.
Chaya Raichik, the controversial figure behind Libs of TikTok, finds herself entangled in a web of accusations linking her posts to real-world threats. As law enforcement grapples with the aftermath of these incidents, questions surrounding Raichik’s responsibility and the consequences of digital influence remain at the forefront of the debate.
The ongoing saga prompts a critical examination of the power dynamics in the digital age, where a single social media account can disrupt communities and divert essential resources.
